Destinys life wasn't always so warm and snuggly
I was driving home from the haven one cold night. There,
in the lane opposite of me, an animal was hit and thrown
before my eyes! I stopped to see if I could help, assuming
it was a possum, from the gray color. When I got out of
my car, I saw it was a cat. A woman kindly parked behind
me, got out and assisted me as I tried to get the cat to
safety. Time was not on our side, it was dark, and traffic
was speeding by, the kitty was in the center of the road
making rescue dangerous for us. We moved quickly, but gently.
I placed her in a carrier that I had in my car, it had a
soft bed inside, and I cranked the heat up in the car to
keep her warm so she would not go into shock.
Upon looking at her at home, she was able to walk, actually
run! Her teeth were chipped, one was gone and impacted in
her upper lip causing all of the blood. She was so hungry,
she ate two cans of wet food before purring and retiring
on a soft fleece cat pillow under the bed.
After a vet exam, xrays and full check up,
she escaped her ordeal with minor scrapes and scratches.
Her left eye needs drops in it daily, but is healing. Her
fur coat is so matted, burrs are embedded in the mats of
fur. Her thin frame shows a cat who has been on her own
for quite some time. After much Tender Lovin'Care, she will
be taken to a groomer to be shaved down. That night, the
vision of her, sitting there stunned, motionless, on the
centerline of the road, cars whizzing by, she would have
been hit over and over
I have named her "Destiny"
